Twin City Chinese Christian Church is a nondenominational independent church in Roseville that offers worship services in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
When Twin City Chinese Christian Church was preparing to move into their new space, they wanted to make recycling a part of the congregation’s culture from the start. In order to come up with a good plan, they reached out to the Recycling Experts at BizRecycling for help.
How We Helped
Our Recycling Expert met with one of the church volunteers to plan the new recycling system. Once they had figured out the best placement for recycling and trash bins, our Recycling Expert helped Twin City Chinese Christian Church apply for a BizRecycling Grant.
The BizRecycling grant allowed Twin City Chinese Christian Church to purchase all of the color-coded bins they needed. Because the congregation speaks English, Cantonese and Mandarin, translated signs were needed. The church’s youth minister recruited enthusiastic teenagers to help with the translation and education efforts.
When Twin City Chinese Christian Church set up their waste hauling contract, they took their hauler’s recommendations on capacity based on similar building sizes. They were pleasantly surprised to discover that they did not need to have that level of service, because they were producing a lower volume of trash. They cut their trash pickup frequency in half, which is saving the church over $800 a year.
In addition to less trash, Twin City Chinese Christian Church is diverting about 9 tons of recyclable materials every year.
Most importantly, the congregation was excited to see the teens in the congregation using their Chinese language skills and taking leadership of the education efforts to help the congregation recycle better. Church leadership is committed to their new recycling program. They continue to monitor the recycling and educate the congregation on the importance of recycling.
