St. Croix Hospice had recently completed an expansion and renovation of their office space. With a fresh environment and an excited group of employees, St. Croix Hospice decided it was time to revamp their recycling program as well.
St. Croix Hospice is a tenant of Crossroad Properties. The office was participating in a recycling program sponsored by Crossroads Properties, the building owners, but wanted to find ways to do more. They contacted BizRecycling for help.
How We Helped
BizRecycling sent one of our Recycling Experts to visit the St. Croix Hospice office. They went to learn about the business and their waste stream. The largest preventable source of waste was the large quantity of disposable dishes and cutlery used in the breakroom. With help from our Recycling Expert, St. Croix Hospice applied for a BizRecycling Grant. They used the funds to purchase a dishwasher, reusable dishware and cutlery.
The St. Croix Hospice employees are excited about the new dishwasher and dishes. Gloria Barnard, administrative assistant, noted that, “The black trash can used to overflow with trash. Now it’s typically empty.”
Thanks to the switch to reusable dishes and cutlery, St. Croix Hospice is now diverting nearly 300 pounds of waste from the trash every year. They are also saving about $900 per year by not buying disposables.
