KinderGardens Child Development Center is a childcare center that provides a variety of learning experiences.
KinderGardens Child Development Center wanted to find better ways of managing their trash output. Because the center served meals to approximately 120 children every day using disposable bowls, plates, cups and plastic spoons and forks, they were producing a significant volume of waste.
KinderGardens was motivated to make a change to their program and educate their staff and children on sustainable practices. They reached out to BizRecycling for help.
How We Helped
BizRecycling put KinderGardens in touch with one of our Recycling Experts. The Recycling Expert did an on-site consultation, and suggested that KinderGardens switch from disposable to reusable dishware. They also recommended a single-sort recycling program.
With help from the Recycling Expert, KinderGardens applied for a BizRecycling Grant. The grand paid for a new dishwasher and reusable dishware, as well as new recycling bins and signs for the center. Our Recycling Expert also referred KinderGarden to Energy Smart, who helped the center receive a $250 utility rebate for their dishwasher purchase.
KinderGarden employees participated in a training session to learn how to sort the recycling and the benefits it would bring to their center. The employees also learned ways to engage the children and their families with recycling.
The changes have made a great improvement for the center. The employees have noticed that they are only taking the trash out once a day instead of twice. By eliminating the use of disposable dishware, KinderGardens has realized significant saving. The children are excited to be recycling and helping the environment.
