Blue Heron Grill is a local American restaurant and bar.
Blue Heron Grill in Hugo wanted to find ways to reduce waste and recycle better. They reached out to the Recycling Experts at BizRecycling for help.
How We Helped
Our Recycling Experts helped Blue Heron Grill work with their trash hauler to add a single-sort recycling program.
In order to ensure the success of their recycling program, the Recycling Experts assisted Blue Heron Grill in applying for a BizRecycling Grant. The grant was used to purchase new color-coded recycling and trash bins for the restaurant. They were also able to expand their dumpster enclosure to make room for a recycling dumpster.
Their new recycling program is a huge success. Blue Heron Grill is now diverting roughly 115,600 pounds of waste each year. This is saving them about $4,600 a year on trash hauling costs.
Blue Heron Grill wanted to do more to reduce their waste, so they switched out paper towels for hand dryers in the restrooms. They also transitioned to compostable to-go containers in place of Styrofoam.
Employees have been receiving positive feedback from their customers after making the switch to compostable containers. Customers are specifically asking for them!
Blue Heron Grill’s Assistant General Manager tells us that, “The positive feedback from our customers, helping the environment, and saving money while we do it has been tremendous!”
The next step for Blue Heron Grill will be adding organics recycling. They have already met with commercial organics haulers and are busily formulating a plan.
