Happy Earth Day!
On April 22, 1970, the very first Earth Day was celebrated in the United States. Since then, it has expanded into 192 countries around the world, and is celebrated by more than a billion people every year. The idea started as a way to raise peoples’ consciousness about pollution and other environmental concerns. Thanks to the first Earth Day, the United States Environmental Protection Agency was formed.
On the 20th anniversary of Earth Day in 1990, the movement went global, with 200 million people participating. Although it’s easy to take recycling for granted today, recycling got a big boost from Earth Day in 1990. Today, single-sort recycling is available throughout Ramsey and Washington counties. It’s easy to recycle when everything goes into one bin.
This year, Earth Day’s big target is plastic pollution. We’ve talked before on the blog about plastics, and ways businesses can use less plastic. BizRecycling exists to help businesses in Ramsey and Washington counties reduce waste and recycle better. The program is an initiative of Ramsey/Washington Recycling & Energy, and is funded by the Ramsey County Environmental Charge and the Washington County Environmental Charge, so it is completely free for businesses.
In honor of Earth Day, we encourage your business to take a couple of minutes to fill out the Contact Us form and have a free consultation with one of our Recycling Experts. They can help you assess your business needs, find recycling options, right-size your trash hauling to help save money on your waste bill, and get you started with a BizRecycling grant to help with regular recycling and/or organics composting programs.
Everyone has a role in taking care of our communities and our environment. As a business owner or manager, you’ve also got people to help. It’s fast and easy to get started. Let us do the thinking for you!
